Botox injections and dermal fillers are both commonly sought after treatments at LAMC, and serve as effective ways to turn back the signs of aging.
Botox works by blocking chemical signals which tell muscles to contract. When the signal has been blocked, the muscle then relaxes, helping to reduce wrinkles. Botox injections only take a few minutes and don’t require any anesthetic. Patients will usually see improvement within two to four days. It’s recommended that you avoid alcohol for about a week before the procedure. Patients should stop using aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications about two weeks before treatment so as to minimize bruising.
Patients will often see wrinkles and lines return over time, but each area can be treated with follow up injections, which will reduce the severity of the wrinkles in the future. The most common side effect of Botox is temporary bruising. Other possible side effects include headache, respiratory infection, drooping of the eyelid, nausea, and indigestion.
Dermal fillers are a treatment for aging using Hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that exists naturally in the skin. The acid works by absorbing water to regulate the balance, resulting in softer, plumper skin. Dermal filler injections are usually made on the nose, edges of the mouth, between the eyebrows to reduce wrinkles and folds and on the lips to add volume and shape.
Natural collagen begins to break down as you age, causing wrinkles, and a decrease in skin laxity and facial volume. Radiesse is the only volumizing filler that immediately replenishes lost volume and stimulates natural collagen production with long lasting results. Radiesse fillers use your skin’s lost volume to diminish the signs of aging using the advanced technology of calcium-based microspheres.
Radiesse corrects smile lines, corners of the mouth, marionette lines, chin wrinkles and pre-jowl lines that are closer to the jawline. The filler uniquely acts as a scaffold under the skin that provides structure and stimulates natural collagen growth. The results are clinically proven to last one year or more, which is why Radiesse is one of the top wrinkle reducers on the market. After the injection, some redness, bruising, swelling or other local side effects may occur. Most side effects are resolved within a few days of treatment.
Juvederm XC – restylane injections
Juvederm XC is a gel filler that instantly smooths away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. It reduces smile lines and vertical lip lines and helps to balance natural contours around the mouth. Juvederm uses HYLACROSS technology that is infused with lidocaine to relieve discomfort during the treatment. Like Radiesse, the natural looking results also last up to a year. Juvederm is used to treat the wrinkles and sustain natural contours around the nose and mouth, including smile lines and vertical lip lines.
The injectable gel is a quick, in office procedure. Juvederm is safe for all skin types, but should not be used for patients who have severe allergies or anyone with a history of anaphylaxis.
Restylane injections are widely used to create a younger look while causing less pain in patients. Similar to the other dermal filler treatments, restylane uses hyaluronic acid, but includes 0.3% lidocaine, which is used to reduce discomfort.
Your surgeon will examine the target area to determine where the injection should be made and how much Restylane to use. The procedure takes no more than 30 minutes, and you will be able to return home shortly afterwards. The results are fully apparent within one week.
Before treatment, aspirin, St. John’s wort and vitamin E supplements should be avoided. After treatment, a cold compress should be used to reduce swelling. It’s important to avoid touching the injection area or exposing it to heat. Some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness are possible side effects that usually last less than 7 days. People who have a history of bad allergic reactions, especially to microorganisms, should avoid Restylane.
